Simple Syllabus: We continue to build our Syllabus repository by using the Simple Syllabus template for all syllabi. The Dashboard of Simple Syllabus was updated this semester. You can view videos and FAQs for Simple Syllabus here.
If you have faculty listed on the syllabus that are not teaching, please send me an email with the course (section if more than one) and the faculty to be removed name. I will gather and upload the file to remove once a day.
Remember you can import a syllabus to from a previous semester or another section. Review the video to import here https://juacademictechnology.com/simplesyllabus.html (third video) - If you are teaching sections that are not in Blackboard, you can click on View Your Simple Dashboard once in the software or log in through the link in MyJU.
FLIP: Microsoft has discontinued the FLIP app and integrated with TEAMs. Kaltura is a good replacement (see below)
Kaltura: Want to include videos in Blackboard? Kaltura is our video integration that allows faculty and students to upload and share videos, track usage, or add quizzing elements. Features include reliable video streaming, automated captioning, quiz embeds, robust analytics, as well as mobile compatibility. Share videos in Ultra. Students can post videos for assignments and discussion also. Kaltura allows faculty and students to record videos with screen capture also. Review all of our Kaltura resources.
Hypothesis: Hypothesis is a tool that allows for social annotation, the ability for students to annotate an electronic document as they read or YouTube videos, and for those annotations to be available to their classmates for comment. Learn more about Hypothesis.
TurnItIn: Turnitin is an online educational tool used to detect potential plagiarism and improve academic integrity. It compares student work against its extensive database of web content, academic journals, and previously submitted papers to generate a similarity report. Learn more about TurnItIn.
TurnItIn has officially moved to their updated Assignment creation integration. Review directions on creating a TurnItIn assignment in Ultra.
Respondus: Respondus is an assessment tool that helps faculty create and facilitate online exams in a secured environment. There are three components to Respondus:
Respondus 4.0 is a software tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed on paper or published directly to your Blackboard or Canvas course. It supports up to 15 question types, including calculated and algorithmic formats. Questions created in a Word document, including embedded images, can be easily imported into it. Respondus 4.0 also enables faculty to export tests created in Blackboard to a Word document. Download the software and learn how to format your Word documents here.
Respondus LockDown Browser: LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard. It prevents a user from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment.
Respondus Monitor: Respondus Monitor is a companion application for LockDown Browser that uses webcam and video technology to prevent cheating during online exams. Monitor integrates with Blackboard and is ideal for non-proctored testing environments. Students will use their computer and a webcam to record assessment sessions without leaving the Blackboard course.
Qualtrics: We have a university license for students, faculty, and staff for Qualtrics. Access is through MyJU, choose the OktaSSO option to log in.
Digital Literacy Lab: We are excited to introduce our new Digital Literacy Lab, a space designed to support students in using the technology needed in your course and developing essential technology skills. We have computers and software for students, as well as space for collaborative work. Our staff provides one-on-one tutoring and small group workshops on topics like Microsoft Office programs, Blackboard, Respondus, TurnItIn, Flip, Adobe Creative Cloud, data analysis tools, online safety, and more. We encourage faculty to refer any students who are having issues with software needed for class or need help improving their digital skills and competencies. The lab is on the 1st floor of the library, and is open 8:30 - 5:00 pm. Students can drop in or book appointments here. Please let your students know about this new space created to bolster their technology abilities and give them the digital know-how to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
